• Five elements for the perfect family home

Finding THE home for you and your family can be an arduous process. Every family member has a list of what they want in your new home, and sometimes those wants are at odds with each other. What’s a family to do? That’s where we’d like to help. We’ve put together the five elements you’re likely to want in your next family home.

    Space

Whether you’re looking for open plan living or a more traditional style home, space is always at a premium. You want to find the home that utilises space in the way you need it to. Is there enough storage for linens and seasonal items? Do you prefer closets and built-in wardrobes to freestanding ones? What’s the back garden like? The way a home is laid out and how the space is used is the most important aspect that will make a house your home.

    Schooling

Where your children are going to get their education is key. We all want what’s best for them and doing a little research before you move can help.- How will they get there? Can they walk or do you need to drive?- Do the schools make it easy to find their Ofsted ratings? Is it in a navigation bar or do you have to search?- What do other parents say about the school? Are they positive or do they have complaints?

These three questions can help you make the right decision for your family.

    Comfort

As you walk in the door, you want to feel a sense of welcome and well-being. You want your home to be an escape from the hustle and bustle of the outside world. There’s a homey feel ready to be made all your own with personal touches, just like icing on a cake. There’s daylight adding warmth to the walls, nothing feels cramped and too small already. If you’ve got niggling feelings now, can you imagine how you’ll feel after you move in?

    Ease

It’s the little things, all the small additions that make life just a little bit easier. Like a pantry off the kitchen to make cooking a family meal quick and easy and a utility room to hold all those muddy wellies and dripping coats. It’s heated towel rails and half height tiling in the bathrooms, the satellite wiring to the living room, all the things you don’t have to add or plan to take care of after you move in. Whether you’re looking for a new build or second-hand property, will it tick all your boxes or will you have to compromise?

    Security

There’s a comfort in knowing that your new home is secure and within a great neighbourhood. You want to feel comfortable parking your car after a day in the office or after an errand or school run. It’s the carbon monoxide detector next to the boiler, the smoke alarms connected to the mains, the double-glazed windows and solid doors. All of these things really add up.

There you have it: space, schooling, comfort, ease, and security. The five elements that are needed to create your perfect family home.

  • Bargate team up with Tailor Made Kitchens to support The Romsey School hockey boys

Bargate team up with Tailor Made Kitchens to support The Romsey School hockey boys

Bargate Homes’ Sales Manager Andrew French and Marketing Manager Jade Henley visited The Romsey School recently to see the boy’s hockey team with their new sponsored kit. The new kit was provided by Bargate Homes and Tailor Made Kitchens to celebrate the great success the U14’s achieved in winning the County Hockey Tournament last season. They threw their new shirts into the air to celebrate the start of a new season with us and Tailor Made Kitchens as sponsors and expressed their excitement for the upcoming games.
Whilst at the school they had the pleasure of meeting the schools Executive Headteacher Jonathan De Sausmarez, P.E teacher, Amy Sheehan who runs the hockey team, Emily Slade a Geography teacher at the school who is also a hockey coach and Managing Director of Tailor Made Kitchens, Ray Sheehan, a long term business associate of Bargate. We are delighted to be supporting the youths and wish them the best of luck for the season ahead.
Amy Sheehan expressed her gratitude and explained why the kit meant so much to her and the team.
“Having only joined The Romsey School just before Christmas I took the U14 boys to the county tournament in February, where they played outstandingly against both state and private schools. They were the only team there that didn’t have proper playing shirts, so as a reward and an incentive to keep playing and progressing I said to the boys I would look into getting new kit. I am so pleased that Bargate have been able to help. The PE Department and the hockey teams are incredibly grateful as we wouldn’t have been able to get the kit without their support. They boys and I are so pleased with the kit and they can’t wait to wear it when the season starts again in September.”

  • Opening of the Fair Oak & Horton Heath Parish Hall

Opening of the Fair Oak & Horton Heath Parish Hall

As part of the recently completed Park Meadow collection in Fair Oak, we worked with the local parish council to provide purpose-built offices, as part of Bargate’s ongoing commitment to improving the communities in which we build, beyond the construction of quality homes.
Saturday 6 January saw the grand opening of the new parish council building, modelled after a 19th century model farm, with council members and local residents in attendance. Parish Chairman Helen Douglas was on hand for the unveiling, and reflected on the experience: “It’s been a long-held ambition of this and previous parish councils to own and manage its own offices, and this dream has become a reality with this wonderful building designed in partnership by Bargate Homes and the Parish of Fair Oak and Horton Heath.”Helen continued: “Right from the start Bargate have been as enthusiastic as the council and nothing has been too much trouble. We have tinkered with the designs, added new features – sometimes asked the impossible! – and they have delivered for us the most amazing purpose-built offices to take us firmly into the future.”

  • Putting down roots in our community

Putting down roots in our community

Always keen to support worthwhile causes in our local community we were recently approached by Cara Crahart a Mum with children at nearby Bishop’s Waltham Infants School.
There were three large unused planters in the school grounds but unfortunately school funds didn’t stretch to restocking them with suitable soil so Cara wondered if we might be able to help, which we were delighted to do.
Cara commented: “It’s particularly important to Year R who cover plants in their next terms curriculum.  When we cleared the area and saw what we had it was clear nothing was going to grow without some better soil, school funds are so stretched we decided we would try approaching some local builders to initially see if any had any surplus topsoil from any local site clearance.  Bargate Homes went one better than that and have given us an amazing base to begin a season of hopefully successful growing!”
Our very own Alan Titchmarsh Andrew French, Sales Manager was on hand to “help” Joseph, Freya, Jessica and Jacob with the first planting. Andrew proved a natural with two young daughters of his own he was the obvious choice to be on hand.
We are shortly to commence our latest development in Bishop’s Waltham, Deer Walk. Call Sally on 02380 601489 to register your interest.

  • The Old Fire Station, Winchester

As we help our excited customers move into the last home at The Old Fire Station, Winchester it is difficult to remember just what it was like two short years ago.
The original Winchester Fire Station has stood unused, untended and unloved for many years, something of an eyesore in the city. The tarmac was broken and weeds where flourishing. The building was in poor repair and rubbish blew around the station yard.
After numerous technical challenges and a great deal of hard work it has become a project of which we will indeed be truly proud to take our Grandchildren to see in years to come.
We hope all our customers will be very happy in their new homes.
