Planning Approved for Bargate Homes’ second phase of new homes in Bedhampton

Planning for new homes

We are delighted to announce that we have received a unanimous resolution to grant planning permission from Havant Borough Council for the second phase of our development in Old Bedhampton. This exciting new phase will deliver 43 homes, building on the success of our adjacent St Thomas’ Mead development, where we recently completed 50 family homes. The latest phase will be located on land west of Old Manor Farm and south of Lower Road, next to the village’s historic conservation area.

Our approved plans feature a mix of two-, three-, and four-bedroom homes and chalet bungalows, with 30% of the properties designated for affordable housing in partnership with VIVID, the parent company of Bargate Homes. We have carefully designed the homes to incorporate traditional materials that complement the character of the local area, ensuring they reflect the same palette as St Thomas’ Mead.

Mark White, Managing Director of Bargate Homes, said: “Receiving unanimous approval for this carefully considered development is a positive step forward for the area. This second phase continues our commitment to delivering high-quality, energy-efficient homes tailored to the needs of the local community. From first-time buyers to downsizers, this scheme offers a range of options while respecting the character of Old Bedhampton and enhancing the local environment.”

Sustainability and community enhancement remain at the heart of our plans. We are proud to be delivering 30% biodiversity net gains through extensive tree planting, landscaping, and habitat creation—significantly exceeding the council’s 10% policy requirement. In addition, we are going beyond standard policy requirements by following the Homes for Nature guidance, ensuring that every home incorporates a biodiversity enhancement, such as swift bricks, bat roosting structures, or bee bricks.

Our plans also include a new play area, community garden, and allotments for residents of both phases, alongside key sustainability features such as PV solar panels, air source heat pumps, and EV charging points to support greener living.

Access to the site will be provided via Lower Road through our existing St Thomas’ Mead development, with additional pedestrian and cycle routes to encourage sustainable travel. We have carefully designed the layout to reduce car dependence while ensuring sufficient parking through private garages, on-plot spaces, and shared visitor areas.

Located in the village of Bedhampton, this development benefits from excellent local amenities, including shops, schools, and community facilities. With Bedhampton train station just a mile away and easy access to the A27 and A3, residents will have convenient links to Portsmouth, Brighton, and London.

We are excited to commence work on the site later this year.

As we celebrate our 20th anniversary in January 2025, we are also marking another milestone—the start of onsite enabling works for our 100th development. Since our founding in 2006, we have remained resilient in the face of industry challenges, achieving consistent growth over the past three years. By the end of the 2024/25 financial year, we will have handed over 275 energy-efficient homes to our customers. Our continued expansion is supported by live planning applications, representing a total gross development value of approximately £460m.
