  • Planning Approved for Bargate Homes’ second phase of new homes in Bedhampton

    Planning for new homes

We are delighted to announce that we have received a unanimous resolution to grant planning permission from Havant Borough Council for the second phase of our development in Old Bedhampton. This exciting new phase will deliver 43 homes, building on the success of our adjacent St Thomas’ Mead development, where we recently completed 50 family homes. The latest phase will be located on land west of Old Manor Farm and south of Lower Road, next to the village’s historic conservation area.

Our approved plans feature a mix of two-, three-, and four-bedroom homes and chalet bungalows, with 30% of the properties designated for affordable housing in partnership with VIVID, the parent company of Bargate Homes. We have carefully designed the homes to incorporate traditional materials that complement the character of the local area, ensuring they reflect the same palette as St Thomas’ Mead.

Mark White, Managing Director of Bargate Homes, said: “Receiving unanimous approval for this carefully considered development is a positive step forward for the area. This second phase continues our commitment to delivering high-quality, energy-efficient homes tailored to the needs of the local community. From first-time buyers to downsizers, this scheme offers a range of options while respecting the character of Old Bedhampton and enhancing the local environment.”

Sustainability and community enhancement remain at the heart of our plans. We are proud to be delivering 30% biodiversity net gains through extensive tree planting, landscaping, and habitat creation—significantly exceeding the council’s 10% policy requirement. In addition, we are going beyond standard policy requirements by following the Homes for Nature guidance, ensuring that every home incorporates a biodiversity enhancement, such as swift bricks, bat roosting structures, or bee bricks.

Our plans also include a new play area, community garden, and allotments for residents of both phases, alongside key sustainability features such as PV solar panels, air source heat pumps, and EV charging points to support greener living.

Access to the site will be provided via Lower Road through our existing St Thomas’ Mead development, with additional pedestrian and cycle routes to encourage sustainable travel. We have carefully designed the layout to reduce car dependence while ensuring sufficient parking through private garages, on-plot spaces, and shared visitor areas.

Located in the village of Bedhampton, this development benefits from excellent local amenities, including shops, schools, and community facilities. With Bedhampton train station just a mile away and easy access to the A27 and A3, residents will have convenient links to Portsmouth, Brighton, and London.

We are excited to commence work on the site later this year.

As we celebrate our 20th anniversary in January 2025, we are also marking another milestone—the start of onsite enabling works for our 100th development. Since our founding in 2006, we have remained resilient in the face of industry challenges, achieving consistent growth over the past three years. By the end of the 2024/25 financial year, we will have handed over 275 energy-efficient homes to our customers. Our continued expansion is supported by live planning applications, representing a total gross development value of approximately £460m.

  • Hook & Warsash Students Discover Sustainable Housebuilding with Bargate Homes

We recently welcomed children from Hook-with-Warsash C of E Academy to our Herons Quarter development in Warsash, Hampshire, for an exciting and educational visit focused on sustainability in housebuilding.

Our team hosted the school council, made up of pupils from Years 1 to 6, for a fun-filled morning of crafts and environmental learning. The session showcased the innovative sustainability features we incorporate into our developments, and the children even took part in a hands-on activity—collecting leaves from the site to create hedgehog-themed artwork.

Herons Quarter, located on Greenaway Lane, is part of the larger Rivercross project and will soon welcome its next phase, Marlow Walk, which is currently under construction. Once complete, Herons Quarter will offer 80 energy-efficient homes ranging from two to four bedrooms.

Matthew Lunney, our Sales and Marketing Manager, shared his thoughts on the event: “It was fantastic to share the ecological measures we implement on-site with such an enthusiastic group of children. From hedgehog highways to bat boxes, we strive to create developments that achieve biodiversity net gains, often exceeding expectations. We hope the children left with a new perspective on protecting our environment.”

Gavin Bater, Assistant Head Teacher at Hook-with-Warsash C of E Academy, added: “Our pupils thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Herons Quarter. They learned so much about sustainability and were particularly excited to explore the show home. They can’t wait to share what they’ve learned with their peers.”

At Herons Quarter, we’ve designed every phase of Rivercross with both community and environmental benefits in mind. Our thoughtfully created public open spaces support recreation and biodiversity, while 40% of the homes in the development are designated for shared ownership or affordable rent through our parent company, VIVID.

Conveniently located within a mile of Warsash’s charming pubs and scenic coastal paths—and just four miles from Whiteley Shopping Centre—our homes offer exceptional connectivity. Southampton city centre is only nine miles away, and Portsmouth’s historic dockyard is 14 miles to the east. Plus, with Swanwick train station and the M27 nearby, transport links across the South of England couldn’t be better.

Prices at Herons Quarter start at £340,000 for a two-bedroom terraced home, with four-bedroom detached properties featuring separate double garages available from £650,000.

Our show home is open daily from 10 am to 5 pm. To find out more or arrange a visit, call us on 01489 307207 or visitwww.bargatehomes.co.uk.

  • Bargate Homes receives planning approval for up to 155 homes in Hordle Village

We’re delighted to have secured a resolution to grant planning permission from New Forest District Council (NFDC) for our hybrid application to deliver up to 155 energy-efficient homes in the historic village of Hordle, nestled between the Solent Coast and the New Forest National Park in Hampshire.

Located on Hordle Lane, our 12.21-hectare (30-acre) site has been allocated for residential development in the NFDC Local Plan. We’ve worked closely with the Council to support its Local Plan new homes target, helping to address the pressing need for housing and reduce the 1,876 households currently on the local housing waiting list.

With this milestone achieved, we’re now preparing a Reserved Matters application for the housing element of the scheme. Our ambition is to deliver a high-quality collection of homes with excellent EPC ratings, ranging from one-bedroom apartments to larger four-bedroom houses. As part of our commitment to affordable housing, 40% of the scheme will be designated for shared ownership, affordable rent, and social rent homes, delivered in partnership with VIVID – the owner of Bargate Homes.

We’re also ensuring that over half of the land will be designated as Public Open Space (POS) and Alternative Natural Recreational Greenspace (ANRG). Our plans include play areas, 15 full-size allotments, maintained woodland, and a well-connected network of new gravel paths with additional native planting, designed to benefit both the existing community and future residents.

Mark White, Managing Director of Bargate Homes, said: “We’re thrilled to receive planning permission at committee for a second development in Hordle. This is another positive step for us in supporting New Forest District Council’s Local Plan, bringing much-needed homes for first-time buyers, upsizers, and downsizers in the area.

“At this latest 155-home development, our focus is not only on delivering high-quality, energy-efficient family homes but also on creating a lasting legacy for the local community. With expansive green spaces, play areas, and allotments, we’re building more than just homes – we’re shaping a vibrant and sustainable neighbourhood.”

This resolution to grant planning permission comes as we celebrate the launch of our 100th development, Shepherd’s Green, located east of Everton Road in Hordle, which will provide 97 mixed-tenure homes.

The plans for our new 155-home development include vehicular access from Hordle Lane, as well as additional pedestrian and cycling routes to encourage active travel. We’re incorporating a variety of parking solutions, including road and parking enhancements, along with dedicated cycle parking.

  • Bargate Homes Acquires Prime Residential Site in Whiteparish, Wiltshire

Working alongside our parent company VIVID Homes, we have acquired a 1.7-Ha (4.2-acre) residential development site in the sought-after village of Whiteparish, south Wiltshire. The site was recently granted outline planning permission for 25 family homes.

We have appointed Bagshot-based architect Cooper Baillie to undertake the detailed design for the scheme, which will incorporate a range of executive homes, seven affordable dwellings, and three further plots to be sold as First Homes. Half of the site is designated for the creation of a play area, attenuation basin and nearly two acres of public parkland. A Reserved Matters planning application will be lodged with Wiltshire Council during 2025.

Located off A27 Romsey Road, the site is on the eastern edge of Whiteparish, which was crowned the ‘Best Kept Village in Wiltshire’ in 2022. The new homes will be constructed to an Energy Performance Certificate rating of a A, in line with Bargate Homes’ comprehensive Environmental Social and Governance strategy and sustainability commitments.

Steve Birch, Land and Planning Director at Bargate Homes, said: “It has been a decade since Bargate Homes last delivered new homes in Wiltshire. Acquiring such a special site in Whiteparish – which offers glorious countryside views and footpaths leading through to the New Forest – is very exciting.

“There is significant pent-up demand for energy-efficient family homes within this ‘Best Kept Village’ which benefits from a sustainable and accessible location between Salisbury and Romsey. We are looking forward to working up the detailed house designs which will complement and add to the appeal of the village, parts of which date back to the 12th Century.”

We will be proposing a variety of home designs across the site that are reflective of the architectural styles that are prevalent in Whiteparish, which is classed as one of south Wiltshire’s larger villages. The quality of design, specification, detailing and material palate will be of the high standards which are synonymous with a Bargate Homes development.

Parking for each new home will be allocated on-plot, within parking bays or garages. The considered development layout will limit the prominence of cars within the streetscape, with visitor parking discretely provided on-street and in small groups. An extensive footpath network from the Romsey Road site takes walkers northwards to West Dean, or southwards to the forest trails and attractions of the New Forest.

Whiteparish benefits from a range of local amenities including a village store, florist, The King’s Head pub, the 12thCentury All Saints Church, All Saints Primary School, a village recreation ground, Post Office and GP Surgery. The secondary school serving the village is the Trafalgar School in Downton.

A bus stop is conveniently located opposite the entrance to the development site, with regular services to nearby villages, and onwards to Salisbury and Romsey. Dean train station offers regional services and connections to London and Bristol. The A36 and M27 enable efficient travel by road.

  • Bargate Homes Submits Detailed Plans for New Housing Development in Old Bedhampton, Havant

    Building Plans - New developments

We have submitted detailed plans for a proposed new housing development in the scenic Hampshire suburb of Old Bedhampton to Havant Borough Council.

The reserved matters application sets out design details for 43 new homes adjacent to the historic conservation area on land west of Old Manor Farm and south of Lower Road, Bedhampton, which received outline planning permission in May 2023.

The proposed development is our second phase, following our hugely successful St Thomas’ Mead scheme, which lies adjacent and incorporates 50 energy-efficient homes.

Our Managing Director, Mark White said: “Phase one of St Thomas’ Mead sold very quickly, with most homes reserved off-plan ahead of the construction programme. It is one of the most beautiful and desirable developments Bargate Homes has delivered, and we’ve made sure this next phase carries forward the same outstanding design principles.

“We’ve received positive feedback and comments from the Borough Council and we’re confident that these detailed plans build upon everything we promised in our outline application. With a target EPC rating of A, these much-needed energy-efficient homes will benefit the local community, with home choices for first-time buyers, growing families, and downsizers.

“This special location is set to provide an opportunity to secure a beautiful home in a picturesque part of Hampshire with great links to Portsmouth, Brighton and London.”

The proposed new community has an attractive mix of traditionally styled two-, three- and four-bedroom houses and chalet bungalows. 30% will be allocated for affordable housing with VIVID, our parent company.

The highly detailed architecture takes inspiration from the local context of Bedhampton and both reflects and enhances the variety of characterful homes in the local area, as well as the adjacent high-quality completed St Thomas’ Mead development. The plans include details of the predominantly mixed red brindle brickwork, traditional red and brown roof tiles, and striking black cladding facades to create variety across the collection of homes.

Enclosed by substantial green landscape buffers, the site will be enhanced by new tree planting, landscaping, and environmental benefits to deliver 30% biodiversity net gains, well beyond the required policy of 10%. Other assets include large areas of multi-functional green open space, a new play space easily accessible by residents of both Phase 1 and Phase 2, allotments and a community garden, and an attenuation basin.

Vehicular access to the site is to be provided from Lower Road, following the approved route through the adjacent St Thomas’ Mead development. Cycle and pedestrian links will also be provided through the earlier phase to encourage a healthy lifestyle, utilising a network of dedicated footways and shared space streets.

Many of the home designs feature garages, with parking generally provided on-plot. Additional allocated visitor parking is incorporated within the scheme design, and every home benefits from its own or shared EV charging point and PV solar panels.

Local amenities in Bedhampton include shops, sports facilities, a community hall, restaurants and bars. Several schools and pre-school facilities are within walking distance. The development is around a mile from Bedhampton train station and only a few minute’s drive from the A27 and A3, which leads to the coastline and the national motorway network.

  • Bargate Homes Submits Outline Planning for New Homes and Country Park in Overton, Hampshire

We have submitted an Outline Planning application for a 19-hectare site in Overton, Hampshire, which could deliver 130 new homes, as well as a Country Park. The vast Country Park would take up more than half of this expansive site, delivering widespread social and environmental benefits.

Located west of Sapley Lane, our proposed housing development would create 130 mixed-tenure new homes, providing opportunities for those looking to downsize, get onto the housing ladder, relocate, or live closer to friends and relatives. 40% will be allocated for affordable housing to be delivered by VIVID – our parent company.

The 15-hectare Country Park is set to be a multifunctional public green space, which would support a range of activities, including natural play areas for young children, and seating areas for relaxing and enjoying views of Overton. New planting of native trees and shrubs is proposed, as well as the rewilding of areas to promote and enhance local biodiversity. The site will deliver a biodiversity net gain of over 109.74%.

The homes are designed to be zero carbon ready, in line with the Building Regulation requirements from 2025, featuring air source heat pumps, Solar PV panels and electric vehicle charging points for each dwelling.

Mark White, our Managing Director of Bargate Homes, said: “We are pleased to have submitted an Outline Planning application for this site in Overton, which could become a very special new development. Located close to our now completed Seven Acres development, our proposals are designed to create a new neighbourhood and green space for the community of Overton. It will provide local residents with the opportunity to stay in the area and maintain all important friend and family networks.

“The new Country Park would be a fantastic asset for the community of Overton, as it will offer ample space for physical outdoor activities, connections to nature, an uplifting meeting place for residents, as well as educational opportunities for school children.”

The development site is sustainably located and has been designed in accordance with the ‘20 Minute Neighbourhood’ concept, with essential amenities all within a 20-minute walk, cycle or public transport ride.

A local shop, allotments, doctor’s surgery, playing fields and primary school are all within a 20-minute walk of the site. Overton train station is a 10-minute cycle, and has frequent services running to Basingstoke, Salisbury, Exeter, and to London Waterloo in 55 minutes.
