Well our choice may not have won, but congratulations to Burntwood School in Wandsworth for scooping the prestigious Riba Stirling Prize for architectural excellence.
The girls’ secondary school in south London was designed by architects Allford Hall Monaghan Morris and rebuilt between 2011 and 2014 at a cost of £40.9m. It was deemed a “clear winner” by judges.
Although we loved Maggies Cancer Caring Centre in Lanarkshire, Scotland – a £1.8m low-impact building in serene surroundings designed by Reiach and Hall Architects – we still think that excellent architecture and design are the winners!
